Mike de Jong

Mike de Jong is a seasoned political leader and strategic advisor with three decades of experience in public service and governance. He has assumed the role of Strategic Advisor for Western Canada at Maple Leaf Strategies, where he will leverage his extensive expertise to guide organizations in navigating the complexities of the Western Canadian legislative, regulatory, and business communities.

De Jong’s career in politics began in 1994 when he ran for election to become a Member of the British Columbia Legislature. Upon his retirement from the Legislature in 2024, he was the second-longest-serving MLA in BC history.

Throughout his tenure, de Jong held various cabinet positions, including Minister of Finance and President of the Treasury Board, where he played a pivotal role in shaping fiscal policy and promoting economic growth in British Columbia. His fiscal leadership was heralded during challenging economic times, as he implemented fiscal responsibility and delivered five consecutive balanced budgets.

Throughout his 30-year career, de Jong held numerous senior Cabinet roles, including Minister of Health, Attorney General, Minister of Forests, Minister of Labour, Minister of Multiculturalism and Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation.
