Toronto, Ontario – Maple Leaf Strategies is pleased to welcome Alec Newton to the team in Toronto. Alec is a skilled communications and public affairs professional with considerable experience in strategic communications and media relations, issues management, stakeholder relations and legislative affairs.
“We’re delighted Alec is on board,” said Bliss Baker, Partner at Maple Leaf Strategies. “He brings a wealth of public relations skills, an analytical approach to problem solving and an ability to build important relationships. All attributes I know will help our clients achieve success.”
Alec recently moved to Toronto from the UK where he spent the past four years at public relations and marketing consultancy firm Edelman. Adept at helping organizations communicate complex ideas effectively, he led successful campaigns for a range of businesses and NGOs including EY, Royal Dutch Shell, the Royal Family and Malaria No More, an advocacy organization campaigning to end the disease.
Alec also worked closely with Microsoft, advising them on the mounting reputational risks facing the technology sector and effective artificial intelligence storytelling. He led a six-month project to build a tool which all employees in the business use to speak consistently about AI, whether they are talking to government, customers or journalists.
During the 2010-2015 coalition government in the UK, Alec advised the Minister of State for Education and Minister of State in the Cabinet Office. He ran the press operation for the Minister during the 2015 General Election campaign and has an in-depth understanding of the legislative process and parliamentary politics.Link Copied
